Boiler scale forms when insoluble salts of calcium and magnesium precipitate at high temperatures. This hard layer accumulates on boiler tubes, significantly hindering heat transfer. This reduces boiler efficiency and can cause tubes to overheat, potentially leading to tube and line ruptures with serious consequences.
To prevent scale formation, Complete Filtration and Utility Inc. initially reduces water hardness using a water softener. Then, they treat the boiler water by dosing chemicals like scale inhibitors and polymer sludge conditioners. These treatments convert any remaining hardness in the boiler feed water into floating sludge. This sludge can be safely removed through boiler blowdown, preventing the formation of hard scale on heat transfer surfaces.
